Gear of War: E-Day Giving Cliff Bleszinski ‘Goosebumps’

Cliff Bleszinski hasn’t had much involvement with the video game industry in recent years, but the legendary Gears of War dev has admitted that what he’s seen from Gears of War: E-Day is giving him ‘goosebumps’ and has high hopes for the game.

As Lead Designer on the first three Gears of War games, Cliff Bleszinski etched himself into the upper echelons of game development folklore. The original trilogy is a triumph, and while he did not influence the games thereafter, Bleszinski thinks the upcoming prequel is ‘writing the ship.’

The reception to Gears of War: E-Day, so far, has been incredibly positive. It looks like a proper return to form, reverting back to some of the original characters that made the earlier games so memorable and beloved.

Not that there’s been anything wrong with Gears 5 or Gears of War 4—far from it!

But Gears of War: E-Day looks solid, and when quizzed about the game on The Expansion Pass (through Idle Sloth), Bleszinski said this:

“I think they’re doing the whole go back to give the people what they want. I think the possibilities for cinematic moments are tremendous with that they’re doing. I got goosebumps when I saw, Marcus falling in that hand, went down and it end up being Dom. I think, they’re really, writing the ship. You’re not going to be fighting those stupid robots or anything, it’s just going to be making the Locust scary again, and seeing Marcus, you know, struggle with just one Locust in that trailer, I think was brilliant. And I have high hopes for it and I can’t wait to see what they put out for it.

If I like it, I’m going to be honest about it, and if I don’t like it, I got nothing to lose, to be honest.”

We learned recently from a key Gears of War voice actor that The Coalition nearly made Gears 6 instead of E-Day.

This would have been cool, and it’s potentially going to be the next big project anyway, but E-Day will be a welcome return to a bygone Gears era.
