XBOX Reportedly Secured Physint for a ‘Fraction’ of Sony’s Deal

A new report says XBOX brought on Physint for a cost far lower than what Sony originally agreed to pay Hideo Kojima.

Last week, a report alleged that Xbox was paying approximately $400 million for Hideo Kojima’s upcoming action-espionage game. Some people attempted to link the timing of recent layoffs to the announcement of the Kojima partnership. However, those figures and the connection to the layoffs have since been debunked.

XBOX Also Got Movie and TV Licenses for Physint Along with Enhanced Terms or OD

A recent report from Windows Central discusses speculation surrounding the XBOX Physint deal. According to Jez Corden’s sources with direct knowledge of the contracts, the deal for Physint is far from the rumored $400 million figure. It appears that Sony may have allocated that budget for the title, while XBOX was able to secure a deal with Hideo Kojima for a fraction of that amount.

The report indicates that the XBOX Physint deal encompasses not only the publishing rights for the title but also the movie and TV licenses for the intellectual property. Additionally, the XBOX team has secured improved terms for “OD,” the atmospheric horror title Kojima Productions is currently developing for XBOX.

Not much is known currently about Hideo Kojima’s Physint. It has been described as a next-generation action-espionage game and is also being called the “spiritual successor of the Metal Gear series.” Players have also learned about some of the cast members, with Bill Skarsgård playing the lead alongside Charlee Fraser, Minami Hamabe, and Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee) in supporting roles. No information about the plot or release window has been revealed yet.

  • What this is really saying is if Sony would have actually tried talking to Kojima about the budget instead of just hitting him with a phone call saying they are pulling out, Kojima would have gladly renegotiated with them LoL. I can’t believe Xbox also got Kojima Studios to renegotiate the OD deal in Xbox’s favor as well! Kojima really must have figured that Xbox was his only chance at getting these projects across the line!
