Matthew Ball, Xbox’s Chief Strategy Officer, comments on the brand rethinking its approach to Project Helix. Project Helix is the code name for XBOX’s next console. It’s planned to be a PC hybrid. However, the company is now reevaluating its approach to the new console as memory costs remain uncertain for the near future.
During a recent interview, Ball spoke about how the company continues to evaluate its approach to its next-generation console. Ultimately, the goal is not to ask too much of players, but also not to short investors.
XBOX Executive Discusses Changes to Project Helix Strategy
Speaking with Christopher Dring of The Game Business, Ball said they want to make sure the console is Affordable and are trying very hard to rethink what video game consoles can be. Not to exclude players but to have more than ever. While everything is no longer an XBOX, they still want to be the number-one console by 2030.
“We are working very hard to rethink everything that we can about Helix, which is a console we are committed to shipping, and we are very cognisant of the ways in which we need to change as a company to make sure it is affordable, to make sure that it’s flexible. We are working hard to rethink what the console model can look like, not in an exclusionary way, but in an additive way.”

If Helix really has the specs that have been “leaked”, then I am totally happy with paying a thousand to $1300 no problem, day one. I am going to pass on the Steam Machine now that I am expecting it to be over a grand and is weaker than a PS5. So I would use the Helix like a stronger version of the Steam Machine honestly.
Xbox needs to make a profit sharing deal with Valve so they can let people use the Steam Store on the Helix without losing too much money.
