XBOX is outlining changes to its publishing process in a bid to attract more developers, after admitting that its structure made it difficult for others to work with the company.
CEO Asha Sharma admitted that it was “very hard” for others to work with XBOX and, as part of ongoing changes, adjustments will be made.
Those comments have now been followed up on by XBOX CTO Scott Van Vliet, who outlined intentions to simplify the concept and publishing processes.
XBOX Aims to Simplify Publishing Process
Posting on X, Van Vliet wrote: “We’ve heard the feedback from developers: Bringing a game to XBOX should be easier than it is today. We agree, and we’re working to make it better.
“We care deeply about ID@XBOX and the developers who build for XBOX. We’re starting with some of the areas we know can create unnecessary friction, including our concept and publishing processes, and simplifying them so developers can spend less time navigating process and more time bringing great games to players.”
XBOX is well behind in the console wars, with PlayStation and Nintendo dominating the market, and Sharma’s arrival as CEO has led to a sweep of changes across the board.
This has included mass layoffs and studio shutdowns, alongside long-requested features like the arrival of Mythic Achievements to rival Sony’s Platinum Trophies.
The adjustments have also led to a shift back toward exclusives, with Gears of War: E-Day launching as a Microsoft exclusive, after Gears of War: Reloaded and Halo: Campaign Evolved brought the iconic Xbox franchises to PlayStation for the first time.
