Next Gears of War Title ‘Will Not Take Nearly As Long To Make’

The head of Gears of War: E-Day developer The Coalition has promised the next entry in the franchise won’t be as long a wait as fans had to hold out for with the prequel.

Gears of War: E-Day, set during the first Emergence of the Locust and serving as a prequel to the story told so far, was released this week, bringing an end to a six-year hiatus for the series since the release of Gears 5 in 2019.

The wait has proved to be worth it, with E-Day achieving a Metacritic score of 87 from reviewers, the highest total in the series since Gears of War 3 in the XBOX 360 days, and the hope is that it will serve as a spark for a new era for the series.

Next Gears of War Title Won’t Take Six Years

Any fans fearing there won’t be another Gears title for a long, long time have now had their concerns eased by The Coalition’s studio head Mike Crump, who told the BBC “the next game will not take nearly as long” to make.

Crump added that the drive for E-Day is to show the best of the XBOX platform, serving as a selling point that can be used to attract other developers to the consdole.

“We measure things like, are we showcasing the platform? Are we pushing the hardware to its limits? Are we showcasing what the Xbox is capable of?

“Our goal basically is to be the best-looking game on the XBOX and really show the industry what’s possible with our hardware.”

He also addressed lingering concerns amid ongoing layoffs from XBOX studios, but stated the intention was to focus on what they can directly control.

“What I say to myself, what I say to the team, is we just we need to focus on the things that we can control. For us, that’s about shipping a great game that people are going to love and I feel like, as a team, we’ve done that.”
