A new report appears to provide release windows for Xbox’s next-gen handheld and console.
Earlier this year, players were informed that Xbox has not abandoned its plans for a first-party handheld console. Although the company hasn’t shared many details yet, it appears that a release window is being planned, and it might come sooner than players expect. Meanwhile, there have been several revelations about the next-generation console, Project Helix, but we may need to wait a little longer for that to come out.
XBOX Next-Gen Console Reportedly Projected to Cost Between $1,200 and $1,800
A new report in Fortune Magazine discusses the release window for Xbox’s next-gen handheld and console. According to sources familiar with the matter, XBOX aims to release the handheld console by the holiday season of 2027 and the next-gen console during the holiday season of 2028. The report also claims internal projections put the console’s cost between $1,200 and $1,800, which would only go lower if Microsoft subsidizes it.

The report also discusses a dispute between the Windows and Xbox teams regarding the software that Project Helix would use. One team preferred a streamlined version of Windows Home for the handheld device, while the other aimed to develop software optimized for the best gaming performance. The situation escalated to the point where a senior Xbox executive threatened to cancel the entire handheld project. Since then, Xbox has had control over the operating system.
