Wreckreation 2 has been confirmed to be on the way, with former head of Criterion Games Fiona Sperry leading a new studio developing the sequel to the 2025 title.
The original title, developed by Three Fields Entertainment, saw those who worked on the game placed on notice of redundancy following release, with publisher THQ Nordic providing no further support, suggesting the franchise was dead in the water.
However, Sperry, whose time leading Criterion Games included several entries in the Burnout franchise, has launched a new studio to create the sequel.
Wreckreation 2 Officially Announced
The new studio, When Turns Tide, is reportedly staffed by former Three Fields Entertainment developers, and Wreckreation 2 is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
No release date has been announced yet, and it will likely be a while until a concrete date is given, given that it is less than a year since the original game was released.
While the original Wreckreation didn’t excel, the sequel is said to be “more compact” than the large, mostly bland, open world of the original, which will give gamers hope that it channels the sort of legacy that Burnout Paradise made over a decade ago.
Sperry’s leadership and history with the Burnout franchise will raise those hopes further, and it will be interesting to see what When Turn Tides has up its sleeve, and when further details will be shared.
