World of Warcraft: Forever is more than just a blast from the past; it’s almost a reinvention of classic WoW. One area where the game is looking to turn over a new leaf is by clamping down on Gold buying, and the consequences could be severe.
Everyone knows Gold buying has been a thing in WoW, well, forever. Similar to buying Coins in EA FC Ultimate Team, you can unofficially purchase Gold through secondary sites and acquire it in-game, but it is highly frowned upon. There are penalties for doing so. Blizzard could be about to throw the gauntlet down in World of Warcraft: Forever.
Buy Gold in World of Warcraft: Forever And Face the Penalty
WoW players still buy Gold, knowing full well the risks. Forever also features Gold at the heart of its internal economy, and no doubt users will be trying to pinch a yard or two.
In a recent World of Warcraft Developer Q&A, the devs spoke about Gold and acknowledged that people buy it. They explained how it will be different in Forever, and how they will “very aggressively punish gold buyers.”

“Being frank, we’ve been probably too lenient on gold buyers and it’s been a little bit easy to get around some of our actions before and we are taking it very seriously. As someone who’s got a 22-year-old World of Warcraft account I can tell you it’s not worth losing it permanently, it’s not worth losing any of your accounts permanently, so I would very strongly recommend [you] don’t do it, it’s not worth it.”
This is a case of reading between the lines. They don’t explicitly say, ‘we will ban you,’ but mentioning the words ‘permanently’ and ‘losing any of your accounts’ is the clearest message you could ask for.
