To say 2026 has been another difficult year for the video game industry would be an understatement. Studios are shutting down, thousands of developers are losing their jobs, and projects are being left behind. And, right now, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.
As the industry continues to navigate these layoffs, restructuring, and financial challenges, the impact of these closures will extend far beyond the studios themselves. It’s turning the industry upside down in ways we haven’t seen since the Video Game Crash of 1983.
There have been over 12,000 known jobs lost this year alone, with the real number likely near the 13,000-14,000 mark. And it hasn’t been just one or two major companies, though the big ones are the largest culprits. Rather, 161 different studios have been hit by layoffs in one way or another, and dozens of them have ended up closing their doors.
Here’s a look at every video game studio that has shut down in 2026, including the games they worked on or were known for. The data comes from GamingLayoffs.com.
