The video game future of the Mass Effect franchise looks bleak following Electronic Arts’ closure of the BioWare studio, but a Amazon Prime series is still going ahead.
EA announced BioWare was being closed on Oct. 21, leading to the loss of 400 jobs and the cancellation of Mass Effect 5, casting a dark shadow over the franchise’s future.
Despite that, the door isn’t being slammed permanently on the Mass Effect franchise and releases in other media forms are still on the horizon, including a Prime Video series.
Amazon Mass Effect TV Series Still Going Ahead
The news comes via IGN, which states that sources inside Prime Video have confirmed the Mass Effect TV series is still going ahead, and that all of the creatives attached to the project remain on board.
Officially in development since 2024, rumors about a series have been present for years, and the TV series comes off the back of failed films.
Set after the original trilogy, the show will not be focused on Commander Shepard’s origin story for the game, but would still be tied to the events.
No release date or window has been announced for the Mass Effect TV series, but given the big news from BioWare, a public update seems likely to clarify the situation.
While that does give hope for Mass Effect fans, it won’t appease everyone, particularly those with close bonds to other IPs like Dragon Age.
