Vermila Studios, the studio behind Blumhouse-published Crisol: Theater of Idols, has reportedly closed its doors.
That’s according to one of the game’s designers, who took to X to report on what happened with Vermila Studios and Crisol: Theater of Idols.
Vermila Studios Closes Its Doors
According to Alejandro, a few months after the game’s launch, Vermila Studios started a redundancy procedure to lay off its staff, which eventually led to the studio closing its doors entirely.
Alejandro wrote, “A few months after the launch, Vermila Studios has initiated a redundancy procedure that has ultimately led to the studio’s closure and the departure of the entire team. It’s very tough news for those of us who have dedicated so much effort and love to this project.”
He continued, “The project has reached the players, but, unfortunately, the studio has not been able to move forward. I’m sad about how this stage ends, but proud of what we all achieved together, both the team and all the players who created a beautiful community.”
According to third-party Steam estimates from Sensor Tower, Crisol: Theater of Idols sold approximately 106,000 copies, equaling $1.2- 1.3 million at the game’s $17.99 price point. The game reached an all-time peak of 1722 concurrent players on Steam, but console data has not been released to the public.
That’s all despite what’s a reasonably good game according to critics, with the game hitting 76/100 on average across its platforms on Metacritic.
Crisol: Theater of Idols is a first-person survival horror video game developed by Vermila Studios and published by Blumhouse Games for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S
