Riot Outlines VCT 2026 EMEA Stage 2 Format as Challenger Teams Enter the Fray

Riot Games has outlined the format for VCT 2026 EMEA Stage 2, which will see Valorant Challenger League teams compete alongside their VCT counterparts.

VCT EMEA Stage 2 will ultimately determine the EMEA representatives at Valorant Champions Shanghai, with the top two teams directly qualifying and the final two Champions spots going to those who have accumulated the most VCT points over the year.

VCT Stage 2 2026 will be the final set of regional splits before the 2027 Valorant circuit revamp, which will dramatically alter the VCT landscape.

Challengers Teams Face Bumper Schedule to Qualify for VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins

For VCT EMEA Stage 2, Valorant Challengers League (VCL) teams will have the chance to qualify for the Stage 2 Play-Ins, giving them a path to the VCT EMEA Stage 2 playoffs.

To qualify for those play-ins, Challenger teams must progress through the VCL EMEA Stage 3 groups running June 22-29. The top three teams from the Challengers EMEA Stage 3 Playoffs (June 30-July 5) will then directly make the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-In.

One remaining team will be decided through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), running from July 7-12.

The LCQ will feature 16 teams, with double-elimination groups leading to a double-elimination playoff, culminating in a Best-of-5 Grand Final for the last spot in those lucrative VCT EMEA Stage 2 Play-Ins.

VCT EMEA Stage 2 Group Stage Format explained

As for the VCT teams, they’ll start in their own groups, reminiscent of the usual group stage format for VCT splits. Two groups in a round-robin format will see each team play each other in a Best of 3.

The VCT EMEA Stage 2 Groups are:

Group Alpha:

  • BBL
  • NAVI
  • FUT
  • Vitality
  • PCIFIC
  • Gentle Mates

Group Omega:

  • Team Heretics
  • Eternal Fire
  • Fnatic
  • Team Liquid
  • GiantX
  • Karmine Corp

What is different this time around is where the group stage leads, and when the matches will be played.

After the Best of 3s have concluded, the top two teams from each group will progress directly to the playoffs. However, the remaining three teams per group will advance to the Play-ins, where they will meet their Challengers opposition.

The VCT EMEA Stage 2 groups will be played from July 15 to August 2. The matches for VCT EMEA Stage 3 groups will be played Wednesday-Sunday with two Bo3s per day, notably adding weekends to the schedule, something which was not possible in previous seasons.

VCT EMEA Stage 2’s enlarged format will see it make use of the recently built Studio Stage at the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, allowing LEC and VCT action to take place simultaneously.

Play-Ins see VCT and Challengers teams face off

Following the conclusion of the Group Stage, the Play-Ins will commence to decide the final four teams of the VCT EMEA Stage 2 Playoffs. The Play-Ins will run from August 6-16 in a double-elimination format.

This stage will see the Challengers teams directly face off against VCT opposition, giving Tier 2 rosters a chance to prove themselves against Tier 1 opposition.

Challenger teams are guaranteed to face a VCT in their opening match, with the lowest-placed VCT Group teams starting in Upper Round 1, paired off against the qualified Challenger teams.

The third and fourth VCT Group Stage teams get a bye, so they will enter the competition at Round 2 of the Upper Bracket.

All matches will be a Best of 3 format, with Week 1 of the Play-Ins running Thursday to Sunday, and Week 2 running Wednesday to Sunday.

VCT EMEA Stage 2 Playoffs and Valorant Champions qualification

The VCT EMEA Stage 2 Playoffs will see the Play-In teams and Playoff teams rejoin each other in an eight-team double-elimination bracket that will decide the champion of VCT EMEA Stage 2 and who makes Valorant Champions.

The opening playoff matches will take place in the Riot Games Arena, with fans returning to witness the playoff battles from August 20-23.

The VCT EMEA Stage 2 Finals will take place from August 28-30 at the Olimpic Arena in Badalona, with the winner and runner-up directly qualifying to Valorant Champions Shanghai.

All matches in the Playoffs will be Best of 3, except for the Best of 5 Grand Final and the Lower Final, which will decide the second EMEA Champions spot.

The remaining two EMEA Champions spots will be decided by VCT points, which are distributed throughout the year based on domestic and international performance.

The current standings in EMEA are:

  • Team Vitality – 10 points
  • FUT Esports – 10 points
  • Team Heretics – 9 points
  • BBL Esports – 7 points
  • Team Liquid – 6 points
  • Fnatic – 6 points
  • Eternal Fire – 6 points
  • Gentle Mates – 5 points
  • Natus Vincere  – 2 points
  • GIANTX – 2 points
  • PCIFIC Esports – 0 points
  • Karmine Corp – 0 points

However, there are plenty of points still to go around in Stage 2, with one point per match win in the regular season and five and four points respectively for third and fourth place.
