Ubisoft Games Will No Longer Need Ubisoft Connect to Launch on Steam

In a new update, Steam and Ubisoft have announced that the Ubisoft client will no longer be needed for Ubisoft games on Steam.

Ubisoft Client Not Needed on Steam

The new post on Steam reads,

“Starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, we are testing a new Ubisoft Connect Services Steam tool that keeps Ubisoft game features such as cross-progression, cross-play,m player safety, challenges and rewards, among others, without requiring the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher to be installed or launched.”

“This first version is an initial step toward a smoother and more streamlined launch experience on Steam. We will continue to iterate and improve Ubisoft Connect Services over time, with the goal of delivering the features and services players use and expect while making the Steam experience as seamless as possible.”

“Ubisoft Connect Services will progressively evolve and roll out to more Ubisoft games on Steam in the future”.

The Ubisoft Connect App was particularly frustrating for players who wanted to load into games quickly, but issues also arose on Ubisoft ‘s older titles, often resulsting in some players stating that they could no longer play some of their libary.

It’s currently unclear which games will be next for Steam to implement, but players of Ubisoft games are already advocating for Assassin’s Creed titles to be in the running to get the treatment next.

Other players have also begun asking Steam to do the same for other clients, including the AE Play app and Rockstar Games’ client.

At the time of writing, Steam hasn’t commented further on if other clients will get the same treatment.
