XBOX has some big releases lined-up before 2026 comes to a close, none more so than Gears of War: E-Day, and the prequel to the franchise could be the first to utilize XBOX’s new ‘Platinum’ trophy equivalent.
Platinum Trophies are highly coveted virtual collectibles on PlayStation, awarded when all other Trophies have been earned, and Asha Sharma confirmed an equivalent is planned to release on XBOX later this year.
After the official release of the Gears of War: E-Day Achievement list, it seems we might now have the first title to utilize the feature.
E-Day Could Have First ‘Platinum’ Achievement
Revealed on the XBOX Wire, E-Day’s list of Achievements includes ‘The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day,’ awarded for earning all other Achievements in the game, and awards zero Gamerscore.
That could, therefore, prove to be the first title releasing with XBOX’s Platinum equivalent, although there are still some uncertainties around the feature.
E-Day has plenty of games releasing before it, many of which haven’t had their Achievement lists revealed yet, so other titles could come with the Platinum-equivalent Achievement to earn.
Additionally, the prospect isn’t entirely new on the XBOX platform, as there are plenty of games offering an Achievement for earning all other Achievements, and it’s not clear whether there will be a retrospective awarding of the new award when the service launches.
It could also be a remnant of XBOX’s previously reported plans to release E-Day on PlayStation 5, which, although never confirmed, was widely expected to be on the cards after Gears of War: Reloaded took the franchise onto the Sony platform for the first time, though Microsoft soon pivoted on plans to release such titles more broadly.
It’s certainly something to keep an eye on in the build-up to E-Day’s release on October 6, particularly as the move into a new month will leave just a few left until the year comes to a close.
