It looks like one of the most requested additions to XBOX Achievements could finally become a reality, as XBOX CEO Asha Sharma has hinted that a Platinum Trophy-style reward is in the works for later this year.
For years, PlayStation players have been able to earn a coveted Platinum Trophy by unlocking every trophy in a game, giving completionists a clear reward for achieving 100%. While XBOX has built its own Achievement ecosystem over the years, it has never offered an equivalent milestone. That may soon be about to change.
XBOX ‘Platinum’ Achievement In The Works
XBOX recently announced a range of new features heading to XBOX Insiders, including voice chat support in game captures and improved ways to browse and track Achievements. Following the announcement, one fan asked when XBOX would finally introduce a true equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy.
Much to the community’s surprise, Asha Sharma responded directly, revealing that the “team is working on something for later this year!”
While Sharma didn’t elaborate on exactly what that means, the response strongly suggests that a major addition to the Achievement system is on the horizon.
Earlier this year, XBOX rolled out several improvements to Achievements, including refreshed visuals and interface enhancements. However, introducing a dedicated reward for earning every Achievement in a game would easily be the biggest evolution of the system to date.
Exactly how the feature will work remains unclear. XBOX could introduce an entirely new Achievement awarded for 100% completion, or it may instead add a special badge or showcase that highlights fully completed games. Whatever form it takes, it would finally give XBOX completionists a long-requested milestone to chase.
