Tencent Are Reportedly Interested in Buying Nexon, Owner of The Finals & The First Descendant

Nexon has a big list of celebrated franchises and releases. The developer and publisher seems to be going from strength to strength, and it’s caught the attention of Tencent, which is considering buying the company to add to its ever-growing list of gaming investments.

It was only recently that Tencent announced it had acquired a 15.75% stake in Arrowhead Game Studios—makers of Helldivers 2. This adds to the company’s repertoire, and it’s reported that Tencent is now eyeing a deal for Nexon.

The news comes from Bloomberg, who suggest Tencent is interested in purchasing Nexon—estimated to be worth $15 billion.

Tencent is “Studying a deal,” and the company is on the lookout for “Ways to bolster its lucrative gaming operations.” Bloomberg has also said this comes from “People with knowledge of the matter.”

Nexon has had a good time recently with the release of The First Berserker Khazan, The First Descendant, and Nexon is also the majority owner of Embark Studios—meaning they have a piece of The Finals and ARC Raiders pies.

We’ll have to wait and see if a deal comes to fruition, and whether Tencent wants a majority stake or the whole thing.
