Infamous is a legendary series that was one of the must-play franchises on the PlayStation 3 back in the day. It debuted in 2009 and was quickly followed by a sequel in 2011, before Sucker Punch turned around another rapid release and dropped a PlayStation 4-based extension of the series in 2014, inFAMOUS: Second Son.
Since the subsequent release of a standalone expansion, ‘inFAMOUS: First Light’, the franchise has stood in relative silence. That was more than a decade ago, and despite the gulf of time, Sucker Punch’s folks would love to revisit the series one day.
‘One Game at a Time’
Sucker Punch is a prestigious studio with legs in the game. The company cut its teeth with the Sly Cooper series before moving on to the sandbox series of Infamous games, which allowed players to flex insane powers in large, open-world environments.
In 2020, the team released Ghost of Tsushima, a transformative, open-world samurai title that turned heads worldwide. Being a spectacle of a game, Ghost of Tsushima boasts sublime visuals, intense combat sequences, and some of the most jaw-dropping art we’ve seen in a game.
In October, Sucker Punch will release Ghost of Yotei, a follow-up set 300 years after the events of Tsushima.
During a recent interview with Game Informer, the co-creative director on Ghost of Yotei, Nate Fox, admitted he’d love to see more Infamous, but because of organisational blockers, it’s not going to happen any time soon:
I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy rerelease, but Sucker Punch is a one game at a time shop, and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yōtei.
The ‘Ghost of’ series and Infamous are poles apart when it comes to their delivery, but they’re equally awesome and immersive. It seems inevitable that Sucker Punch will one day revisit Infamous. It’s one of those PlayStation franchises that players would sorely love to see picked back up, along with the likes of Killzone, Resistance, Syphon Filter, and SOCOM.
