Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap Shares Devs’ Flexible Goals

The Early Access build of Subnautica 2 has been out for 24 hours, and the folks at Unknown Worlds are now sharing a roadmap of what to expect during the Early Access period. Released on May 15, the developers have shared a look at what they expect to deliver to players early on. They’re also teasing major expansions in the future, including new tools, vehicles, and more.

Right off the bat, it’s worth noting that there are no hard dates for any of these updates. This is likely due to developers wanting to temper expectations and avoid being held to such strict deadlines at this early stage in the game’s life. The team also warns that the roadmap is subject to adjustment and can change based on player feedback.

You can see a full breakdown of the roadmap below.

Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap

Early Access 1.1 focuses on general quality-of-life improvements. Planned improvements include updates to the PDA Data Bank, Biomods System, and Blight Encounters. This update will also see changes to Vehicle Docking and Fabrication, Wrecks Gameplay, and the Voicelogs Priority System. Additions expected in the first Early Access update include the ability to Sprint, storage cache, and more passive Biomod slots.

Early Access update 1.2 will be focused largely on co-op gameplay. Notable improvements here include HUD signals, a base builder tool, and a pinned recipes system. Additions in this update include voice chat, emotes, player trading, the ability to revive players, and other unnamed customizations.

Updates far into the future include the addition of new regions and biomes. That will, of course, mean new creatures get added as well. There will also be a new chapter in the story mode. All of these updates are in addition to ongoing improvements, including general bug fixes, balance tuning, and optimization.
