Street Fighter 2 & Kingdom Hearts Composer Returns for Street Fighter 6 After 30 Years

Yoko Shimomura is synonymous with the games industry. She’s helped construct a litany of famous scores for some of gaming’s biggest releases. The composer has unfinished business with Street Fighter, though, as she’s returned with a new track for Street Fighter 6—to be released in an upcoming update.

1991’s Street Fighter 2 is the last association Yoko Shimomura had with the series. Since then, she’s sprinkled her creativity throughout Mario games, Final Fantasy, and pretty much every Kingdom Hearts title. Now, she’s back with a special song in Street Fighter 6.

Yoko Shimomura’s return was confirmed by the official Street Fighter X account. A message on June 2 indicated a new track called “Edge of Triumph” was on the way—written by Shimomura.

“We’ve teamed up with game music composer Yoko Shimomura for a special collaboration! Make sure you check out the newly added special BGM track Edge of Triumph by Yoko Shimomura herself in the Elena Update! Select it in the Character BGM Settings to bring more excitement to all of your fights!”

The Elena update adds the titular character, along with new balance changes, and more.

It’s expected that Yoko Shimomura will work on Kingdom Hearts 4. Until then, you can enjoy her first Street Fighter involvement in 34 years, and who knows, it could be the start of a renewed partnership!
