Steam has released a new checklist for its pre-release review process for games.
The platform has observed a significant increase in the number of submissions for review in recent months and has been working to scale the process to match the demand. They have designed new items in the release checklist, with more improvements on the way. Check out the new additions to the process below:
Steam Adds New Items to Release Checklist
The first addition to the checklist of the pre-release review process for games on the platform is running the game on Steam for at least 5 minutes. The blog post revealed that many devs have never had their builds played through Steam, and running the game helps identify basic steps that could affect the user experience.
Next, devs need to confirm all required common distributables and indicate which ones aren’t needed. Devs will also have to confirm if their achievements are ready. For Steam Cloud save detection, devs must have a member of their partner group write save files to Steam Cloud.
Coming to screenshots, players will now need to have 5 categorized as gameplay, along with images of the menu, concept art, or screenshots of in-game cinematics, with all categorized correctly.
Lastly, developers will get a new set of the most common issues, along with new information reviewers need to begin, such as whether the game has been tested on a different PC, whether all game content can be accessed, whether all promised languages are in the build, etc.
Steam has clarified that testing game builds takes 3-5 days; however, they are lagging behind at the moment, and it could take up to 12 days.
