Bethesda Game Studios has officially lifted the lid on Terran Armada, the very long-awaited second major expansion for Starfield, the 2023 space-faring RPG epic. Starfield has been in a tricky spot of late, but Bethesda Game Studios has been cooking behind the scenes, preparing for an overhaul that true fans of the RPG will apparently love.
In a new developer deep-dive video published minutes ago, Bethesda Game Studios walked through everything you could need to know about Terran Armada.
Better Late Than Never
The reveal of Terran Armada comes months after Bethesda Game Studios name-dropped the expansion, then promptly vanished into thin air, never addressing it again. It also comes shortly after Todd Howard said that the next supersized update to the Starfield ecosystem would only really benefit those who already love the game.
In the developer deep dive that premiered today on YouTube, the team revealed the trailer for Free Lanes, first of all, which is the name of the update that opens up space like never before in Starfield. This is the update that everyone thought would be ‘Starfield 2.0’, but it isn’t.
Thanks, Todd!
It enables deeper customization of ships, vehicles, and characters, and unlocks more companions. It also unlocks interplanetary travel like never before, removing some restrictions that have existed since launch. Players will be able to use new ‘X-Tech’ implementations to customize their items to a much deeper scale, too.
But the real gem was the first look at Terran Armada, which sees the arrival of a new threat, one driven by cybernetic, mechanized enemies with a mysterious agenda. They’re set to put humans in their place and drill down into their bid to find superiority amongst the stars.
Here’s the trailer:
But what’s the gist of Terran Armada?
“A new threat has entered the Settled Systems. Believing themselves to be the “true” children of Earth, the Terran Armada is made up of members of the United Colonies and Freestar Collective who vanished during the Colony War. The Terrans are an advanced military force, largely comprised of robotic soldiers.”
Players will need to face Incursions in the wild west of space, taking on these new enemies wherever they surface.
But there’s more. From new ship modules to Outpost mechanics, a new land vehicle to more planetary POIs, and additional quests to a home base on an asteroid, Bethesda has added a fair bit in this upcoming upgrade.
There are new photomode elements, enemy modifiers, weapon skins, a brand-new companion tied to Terran Armada, fresh Starborn abilities, new game plus, and more customizable weapon effects. Oh, and it’s all coming to PlayStation 5 on April 7, too. It’ll cost $69.99 for the best edition, or $49.99 for the standard version.
The team also revealed that ‘Trackers Alliance’ is available to play now, while Free Lanes and Terran Armada will be released on April 7, 2026, and it’ll cost just $9.99.
