Spider-Man 2 Creative Director Teases a Third Game

Continuing on from 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and 2020’s Miles Morale, which served as a PS5 launch title, Spider-Man 2 brings both web-swinging heroes together as they look to take down Venom and the mercenary group called the Hunters. So far, Spider-Man 2 has been a great success with Sony claiming the game sold 2.5 million copies within its first 24 hours of release.

While speaking on the Friends Per Second podcast, Spider-Man 2’s creative director Bryan Intihar gave some subtle hints at the future of Insomniac’s smash-hit series and that a third game could be in the works, likening it to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

“If Spider-Man 1 was like our Iron Man, and Spider-Man 2 was like a Civil War… where logically do we go from there?”

For those who don’t keep up with the MCU, the beloved Infinity Saga was split into three phases between 2008 and 2019. It began with Iron Man and then spent the next few years establishing other franchises and characters such as Thor, The Incredible Hulk, and The Avengers. Things began ramping up with Captain America: Civil War at the beginning of phase three, and concluded with Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 already becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game in history, selling over 2.5 million copies within its first 24 hours, it’s hard not to see that Sony, and Insomniac, will probably want to do a third title.

Without any spoilers, the ending of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 story also hints at a third game potentially being on the horizon, too.

For Marvel fans without a PlayStation 5, there could be a while to wait before they get their hands on the PC port of Spider-Man 2, as Miles Morales wasn’t released on the platform for two years after the PlayStation release.

But, fans of Insomniac’s Marvel games won’t have long to wait until they can jump into the next adventure, with Insomniac currently developing Wolverine, which is scheduled to release in 2024. A stand-alone game focused on Venom was also teased by Senior Narrative Director Jon Paquette recently, too!

  • Obvious but with what? This game really wasn’t good. They’re setting up Green Goblin, I guess Carnage is coming maybe they do Red Goblin? Peter I guess might die? I don’t see how the impact will be done better this game wasn’t that great and since Aunt May those scenes can’t be replicated. In the comics Miles’s mom is killed by Venom does Goblin or Carnage kill his mom and then Peter? It’s hard to see what they do from here

    • They should have asked for that license instead I mean this city is a bit too clean to be NYC it’s more like Metropolis, MJ is way more like Lois Lane than the traditional MJ, Peter is more lax like Superman and can fly like him, villains like Parasite and Metallo would work here instead of who they use not to mention Lex instead of Norman and unlike this Lex just hating for no other reason makes sense. Superman unlike Spider-Man taking a step back makes more sense since he has so many subordinates in Metropolis and he did step back to have a kid not to mention Metropolis crime isn’t like Gotham. Miles taking over for Peter makes no sense especially since why would Peter burden a kid with that responsibility? In the comics Peter dies so Miles taking the burden worked better and his uncle was a dick who used Miles then died, then Venom killed his mom and his dad abandoned him blaming him for their deaths he had way more of a struggle and had to find a way to survive unlike here he has no drive and with college he won’t have time for Spider-Man.

  • Low expectations and how far away is it? PS5 or PS6? The story made no sense and Peter was useless they should have made Eddie Venom instead. With the ending of this game I assume Peter dies next.

  • Miles Morales 2 or Spider-Man 3? This game was bad. I wonder what the DLC will be are they going to force Venom back.
