Sony Slips Again and Blocks Marvel Tokon in 132 Countries on PC

Sony is in the press again, and again, it’s for the wrong reasons. It has been discovered that, on PC, the incoming Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be blocked in 132 countries, owing to the limitations of the PlayStation Network.

This age-old issue has been a thing for a hot minute, and it has weighed heavily on other games, causing them to be review-bombed and boycotted, often incorrectly. Fans have taken to social media to voice their displeasure, but this is a problem that has risen before and will likely surface again in the future.

But Sony is Getting Out of PC

PlayStation’s first-party releases are kind of working their way out of the PC market going forward, that much we know. But we kind of also know that Sony intends to still publish live-service, multiplayer-focused games on PC as well as PlayStation platforms.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is the latest game to fall into this camp, given that Sony owns the franchise. The PC launch is hampered by the typical issues that surface when any PlayStation-backed product releases on Steam, and that’s that 132 countries are blocked from accessing the game.

This is because those countries cannot access the PlayStation Network, which is a necessary requirement for playing Marvel Tokon. No PlayStation Network, no purchase available on Steam, unfortunately.

In recent weeks, Sony has found itself kicked in the backside numerous times by the wider gaming community. We’ve seen price hikes, layoffs, and the news that Sony Interactive Entertainment will stop printing discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028, all of late.

However, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel for these 132 countries. In the past, backlash has been strong enough for changes to land on a case-by-case basis. Once upon a time, Helldivers 2 was going to get an account-linking update between PSN and Steam, and it was slammed so hard by players that PlayStation backed off and canceled the move.

That was only after 100,000 negative reviews appeared on the game on Steam.

Of course, there are ways around this PSN-influenced blocker, such as leaning on a VPN, but those steps might result in you facing punitive action.
