Smash Bros. Dev Says It’s Impossible to Grant All Player Requests

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros and Kirby Air Riders, is now discussing the difficulties of trying to satisfy everyone while ensuring that their audience is heard and respected.

Nintendo recently released the fifth part in the Kirby Air Riders: Development Insights series. In the write-up, Sakurai speaks about the choices players have for self-expression in Air Riders. This includes different vehicles and headwear.

Sakurai noted that he wanted to cater to players who enjoy customizing their characters and thanked the team that worked on the game for allowing all characters to wear headgear.

Super Smash Bros. Creator: We Try to Keep Players in Mind

Furthermore, Masahiro Sakurai proudly stated that he always tries to keep players in mind when he’s developing a video game. However, plenty of time and labor can be added when accommodating player requests, and he knows there’s no way to appease everyone.

“I want to implement things because I understand the reasons behind the players’ desires. But it would be utterly impossible to grant every request. So we have to decide what should be implemented with that balance in mind. There will be players who think customization is pointless, but I definitely don’t feel like our efforts were in vain at all,” he said.

While this is in regard to Kirby Air Riders, much can be said in the same vein for the Super Smash Bros. series. There are plenty of player-requested characters that have yet to appear in the beloved Nintendo fighting game. While some third-party omissions, such as Devil May Cry’s Dante or Crash Bandicoot, make sense, many who love Nintendo are still waiting to play as Waluigi in Smash.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released on the original Nintendo Switch in 2018. It would later have additional characters added via DLC packs. It is not known when or if another game in the series will be released.

  • Would have loved it if Kasumi from Dead Or Alive and Ryu Hyabusa from Ninja Gaiden and Dead Or Alive made it in the last game given the roster. Also Subspace but we didn’t get that. Maybe somehow the next one pulls something and has that same roster. Also Bomberman.

  • “It is not known if another game in the series will be released”
Uhhh yeah… You really think just because it has not been announced that another Smash Bros game has yet to be announced, that they aren’t going to put another one out eventually?
A game that sells that well… Ya sorry to ruin the surprise, but 1,000% there will be another Smash Bros eventually
