Nintendo has announced new pricing guidelines for physical and digital releases of Switch 2 games. This move alters the cost players will pay for first-party titles in this new generation.
Nintendo issued an official statement on their website stating that starting in May 2026, first-party published titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 will have different MSRP for digital and physical releases. These changes will begin with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. The new Yoshi game is set to release on May 21. The digital version of the game is $59.99, while the physical copy will be $69.99.
“Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games,” the statement says.
Nintendo’s Switch to a Digital Marketplace
This is the latest move by Nintendo to encourage players to buy titles in the way that is most convenient for them. As the games industry as a whole moves away from physical releases, the company found a middle ground in game key cards. Those are physical releases that include a code for digital download of the game.
These releases were polarizing because they still required players to have an internet connection to play, despite the physical purchase. However, players can also sell a game key card, unlike with purely digital releases.
Many players are still waiting for the first general Nintendo Direct presentation of the year. There have been numerous Nintendo presentations this year, but none have featured major first-party titles. Insider Gaming will continue to bring everyone the latest Nintendo news.
