Nintendo‘s Shigeru Miyamoto created Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, and even Fox McCloud. These days, he’s more focused on seeing his creations succeed beyond gaming, in movies and other adaptations. However, he is leaving the door open to making another game.
In a new interview, Miyamoto says he is engrossed in filmmaking but may return to game development as he explores ideas beyond Nintendo’s typical work.
Shigeru Miyamoto Wants to Surprise Nintendo With New Ideas

After receiving the Japanese Order of Culture, Miyamoto spoke to Denfaminicogamer.
When asked about his future projects, he said he is working on several, but is focused on filmmaking and wants to see how far he can go on his own in that realm. However, he left the door open to making new games. Also, in the spirit of originality, he’s considering doing something Nintendo doesn’t usually do, which would also surprise employees.
I don’t know what the future holds (laughs). Right now I’m engrossed in filmmaking, working with professionals, but I also want to see how far I can go on my own. And in the process, I might try making something like a game again.
With the evolution of digital media, work has become more complex, but at the same time, some aspects can be done more quickly. As long as I’m motivated, I want to try various things, and since we’re talking about “originality,” I’m thinking of doing something that we don’t usually do at Nintendo and surprising the employees .
