The development progress on Santa Monica Studio’s next game is reportedly ‘going well’.
The developers responsible for two of the biggest games on PlayStation, God of War 2018 and God of War: Ragnarok, are currently working on an unannounced IP. No details about this new game have been officially revealed yet, but it appears to be making good progress nonetheless.
Cory Barlog’s Upcoming Game is Reportedly Santa Monica’s ‘Next Big Thing’
The latest details on Santa Monica Studio’s upcoming game come from Jason Schreier on ResetEra (via r/GamingLeaksAndRumours). When asked about the development status of Cory Barlog’s next game, Schrier replied, “Cory Barlog’s game is SSM’s next big thing. Last time I spoke to anyone about it (a month or two ago) it was going well.” No other details about this project were revealed in the thread.
Even though details about Santa Monica Studio’s next game are scarce, we do know that the development studio is hiring left, right and centre for their unannounced IP. Their latest post on X (formerly Twitter) reveals that “SMS is looking for passionate artists, animators, and quality assurance to help us on our new unannounced project”, with multiple jobs available across each category.
In other news, there have been recent reports about a new Metroidvania-style God of War game set in Greece, where you play as Kratos’ brother. However, the latest information indicates that this game has been pushed to 2026. Earlier this year, it was also reported that the next mainline God of War instalment will focus on Egyptian mythology.
