The Resident Evil movie’s director has stated that he’s not going to be “completely obedient” to the lore of the games, and no matter what he does, people are going to come for him online.
A new Resident Evil movie was confirmed earlier this year, with Barbarian director Zach Cregger set to write and direct the project. Cregger stated a few months ago that the reboot will be in the ‘spirit of games’ and “unlike any of the previous films.” However, their latest statement may disappoint some fans.
Resident Evil Director Will Be “Happy With the Movie” and Hopes Others Will Be Too
In the latest edition of SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+), Cregger spoke about the upcoming Resident Evil movie. Cregger first explained that he is “a gigantic Resident Evil game fan”. He has played ‘all’ the games in the series and isn’t sure how many reruns he has had with Resident Evil 4. However, Cregger clarifies that he’s “definitely not trying to be completely obedient to the lore of the games.”
Cregger explains that he is going to try to “tell a story that just feels authentic to the experience you get when you play the games” and doesn’t think he is “breaking any major rules”. However, he is aware that no matter what he does, people will inevitably come after him online. Which is why he wants to “make a really good movie and tell a story that’s compelling”. Cregger knows that he is going to be happy with the movie and hopes others will be too.
