Rumours about a new God of War Metroidvania game have started circulating online, and it seems the upcoming title will have you playing as Deimos, Kratos’ brother.
The new information comes from reliable insider Shpeshal_Nick (via MysticMsa3d), who recently spoke about the rumoured God of War title on a Discord chat. Nick stated that the upcoming God of War title is set in Greek mythology, the genre is metroidvania, and players will take on the role of Deimos, Kratos’ brother. Nick also added that an announcement should arrive this year.
Another leaker from ResetEra has provided additional details about this God of War Metroidvania title. They corroborate the fact that Deimos will return and that the game is set in Greece, but prior to Kratos turning into a god. There is also some more information: the game is being developed under the supervision of Santa Monica, and Mega Cat Studios could be involved. Also, the project is “heavily inspired by Blasphemous.”
It has been three years since we received God of War: Ragnarok, and we have yet to hear anything new about upcoming titles for the franchise. However, according to the latest rumours, the developers are going for a spin-off title instead of a mainline instalment. Regardless, players should take this information with a grain of salt and wait for an official announcement to know for sure.
In other news, the God of War series show runner recently spoke about not being a gamer. Also, a PlayStation State of Play event is scheduled for today.
