Jirair ‘Gyro’ Papazian has announced he is taking a break from Rocket League esports for the upcoming RLCS split.
Rocket League Season 22 is now underway, with teams starting to compete in each region with hopes of qualifying for the RLCS Paris Major in May. This will be the last RLCS event before this year’s Rocket League World Championships.
However, Gyro says he doesn’t see the point of participating in the upcoming season and is instead focusing on his YouTube videos.
Gyro Releases Statement on Competitive Rocket League Break
Gyro is a very experienced Rocket League pro, having competed for seven years and represented major esports organisations including FaZe Clan, Dignitas, Rogue and KOI.
Yet, on his Twitter, the pro says he has hit a slump for the first time in his extensive career:
“I’ve been playing Rocket League for over a decade and have been a pro for seven of them. This is the first time where I don’t see a reason to continue for the split.”
“With difficult classes, the bot problem, Collegiate Rocket League, and the top-heavy format of RLCS, it was hard to find a reason without a contending team/org,” he added.
While feeling down about the scene, Gyro insisted that he isn’t planning on retiring, just focusing on his academics and producing content for the time being.
Gyro promised to be more consistent with his YouTube videos now that he won’t be regularly practising and scrimming for pro play.
He’ll also still be participating in the online qualifiers for the upcoming RLCS split, but with fellow content creator JamaicanCoconut and will be looking more to produce videos than seriously compete.
