The women’s League of Legends esports scene has been given a major boost with the confirmation that both LoL Game Changers Rising and Nova Series events will continue in 2026.
Both women’s LoL tournaments were introduced last year, and a second iteration of the Nova Series tournament was confirmed for the second half of 2026 earlier this week.
Game Changers Rising’s return has been confirmed too as it has been acquired by N.E.O (New Esports Org), a new France-based company that also acquired the rights to run the EMEA Masters LoL tournaments, where the popular team Witchcraft just suffered a surprising loss.
The company is being led by Bertrand Amar and Matthieu Dallon, two well-known names in the French esports scene who previously worked for tournament organizers Webedia. E.V.O has seemingly taken on most of Webedia’s esports work, including the EVO France fighting game event and the virtual reality FPS tournament EVA Pro League.
The Current State of Women’s LoL Esports
Following on from the success of Valorant’s equivalent, Riot Games hosted the first-ever LoL Game Changers event last year, though on a much smaller scale than the FPS version.
The tournament featured three LEC partnered teams in G2 Hel, SK Gaming Avarosa, and Vitality Rising Bees.
G2 Hel’s roster had already made a big name for themselves after becoming the first all-women team to qualify for the second tier of a European Regional League after earning promotion to Spain’s Liga Nexo.
The team surprisingly didn’t win Game Changers, losing to Eterna in the final, but did then go on to win the inaugural Nova Series tournament in France.
Despite this success, G2 Esports disbanded the women’s team last year due to a lack of sponsorship. Two other Game Changers participants in Solary and Galions, two well-known teams in France’s esports scene, also did the same and paused their women’s LoL projects.
Following this exodus of teams, the news that Game Changers and the Nova Series will continue this year is encouraging for the women’s LoL community.
