Pokémon Legends: Z-A Release Date Explained—Exact Start Times & Release Date Confirmed

The Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date is just around the corner, bringing players back to Lumiose City within the Kalos region first seen in Pokémon X and Y.

Of course, with the series returning to this location, a lot of the focus has been put on what companions will have new mega evolutions in the game, but there’s more to see yet.

Here is when the Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date is and what time you can expect to get your hands on it.

The Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date is set for October 16 on both the original Nintendo Switch and the new Nintendo Switch 2.

While the game is technically the same across both generations of the Switch, the updated version on the Switch 2 is slightly more expensive. Switch 1 owners can play for $60, while Switch 2 players have to spend $70.

If you decide to play the Switch 1 version of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and later decide you want to upgrade to the Switch 2, you can buy a $10 upgrade pack on the Nintendo eShop.

The big difference between the Switch 1 and Switch 2 versions is that the more beefed-up version will feature better resolutions and framerates. There are no content differences.

Do We Know the Pokémon Legends: Z-A Start Time?

Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be available at 12 AM ET on October 16. This time extends throughout the United States, with Central Time players getting access at 11 PM, and Pacific Time west coasters getting access at 9 PM.

While this information has not been confirmed by Nintendo itself, GameStop is handling midnight releases for the game at this time, which means that is the embargo time Nintendo gave the retail chain. While these are the physical editions of the game, you can expect the digital Nintendo eShop pre-orders to go live at the same time.

Unfortunately, this only confirms the release time for the United States and not other countries, but usually, Nintendo’s first-party releases that are rather large, like a new Pokémon game, happen at midnight locally for all countries. The US having four time zones complicates things, but you should be able to access the game at midnight your time.

Are you getting Pokémon Legends: Z-A as soon as possible? Let us know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

Are you looking forward to getting all of the mega evolutions? You’d better be okay with playing online battles. You can also learn what we know so far about the game’s expansions post-release.
