Pokémon Legends: Z-A New Mega Evolutions: All Confirmed & Leaked Mega Evolutions

The hype for Pokémon Legends: Z-A continues to rise, with one of the most anticipated aspects being the return of the highly-popular Mega Evolution. As we edge closer to release, leaks of new Mega Evolutions have become more solid.

Releasing October 16, Pokémon Legends: Z-A will be the first Pokémon title to launch on Nintendo Switch 2, with a special bundle available to commemorate it, and could be the last mainline Pokémon release on the original Switch console, with Gen 10 expected next year to mark the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

As ever, Pokémon likes to reveal different parts of the game in dribs and drabs, saving plenty as secrets for release, but we’re pretty confident the full list of new Mega Evolutions is correct.

The only confirmed new Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A so far is Mega Dragonite, which was revealed during the July Pokémon Presents showcase.

Mega Dragonite was widely expected to debut in the title, being one of the last few pseudo-legendaries from the original generations without a gimmick, having been overlooked for regional forms and Gigantamax.

Dragonite fans are now finally getting treated to a new design for the Pokémon, which was one of the original Dragon-types in the franchise, and a first look at the Mega Evolution was shown.

Mega Dragonite is confirmed to have the Dragon and Flying type, similar to its standard form, and is described as having “distinctive Dragonair-like features, such as a pearl on its tail and wings on its head that act as feelers.”

The table below shows all confirmed Mega Evolutions for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, including favorites from previous eras. New Mega Evolutions are highlighted in bold.

All Leaked New Mega Evolutions

Leaks have suggested there are 26 new Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which would mean the majority are still to be revealed.

While the latest reveals for Pokémon Legends: Z-A did not officially announce any new Mega Evolutions beyond Mega Dragonite, they did add further fuel to the fire.

Firstly, the three starter Pokémon, Chikorita, Tepig, and Totodile, are all highly likely to see their final forms given a Mega Evolution, similarly to how Legends: Arceus saw regional variants for Typhlosion, Decidueye, and Samurott.

In the same vein, Mega Evolutions for the original Kalos starter trio’s final forms, Greninja, Chesnaught, and Delphox, are also widely expected. Evidence that this is accurate has come from trademarks related to the Pokémon TCG in Japan for a ‘Ninja Spinner’ set, heavily hinting at Mega Greninja.

The final two major hints came directly from Pokémon themselves during the latest Legends: Z-A teaser, revealing Lida and Naveen as key characters in the story. Their partner Pokémon, respectively, are Staryu and Scraggy, and it would be a huge surprise if their partners did not see a Mega Evolution for their final form.

The table below names all the leaked Mega Evolutions for Pokémon Legends: Z-A alongside their apparent typings, with the majority retaining the same type as their standard form.
