P-Studio may be hard at work on the long-awaited Persona 6, but the studio has developed a recent habit of revisiting older games in the franchise. With Persona 4 Revival set to launch early next year, Persona 3, 4, and 5 will soon all have modern versions, leaving the first two entries looking increasingly outdated by comparison.
However, that could eventually change. The head producer of Persona 4 Revival believes the original Persona games are titles that the studio “have to” remake, suggesting that it’s only a matter of time before Persona 1 and 2 receive the remake treatment.
More Persona Remakes Could Be On The Horizon
Speaking with GamerBraves, Persona 4 Revival head producer Wada Kazuhisa discussed the development of the upcoming remake, including the challenges of rebuilding Inaba in 3D and creating new cutscenes and animated sequences.
Wada also explained some of the broader changes coming to Persona 4 Revival compared to the original game. While the story and characters are being left untouched, improvements have primarily been made to the animation, graphics, and overall quality-of-life, as well as some notable combat upgrades.
Eventually, Wada was asked what could come next for the Persona series, specifically whether fans could see remakes of the first two games or whether P-Studio’s attention was now firmly on Persona 6. While he couldn’t confirm anything, he was clear about his personal stance on the matter:
At this point, I can’t say for sure, but personally, I think it’s something we should definitely do. I think we have to do it.
This isn’t the first time Wada has expressed an interest in remaking the older Persona games, although he previously noted that doing so wasn’t part of his schedule. With Persona 4 Revival now just months away, however, perhaps the idea could become a more serious consideration for P-Studio in the future.
Of course, remaking Persona 1 and 2 would present a very different challenge from what we’ve seen with Persona 3 Reload and the upcoming Persona 4 Revival.
Both games are fundamentally different from the modern Persona formula, raising an important question for P-Studio: should the remakes remain faithful to their original designs, potentially alienating newer players, or should they modernise the experience and risk frustrating longtime fans?
It’s likely a conversation Wada and the rest of P-Studio have already had internally, but for now, fans can at least remain hopeful that Persona 1 and 2 could eventually get an upgrade.
