Peak Publishers Prefer Piracy to ‘Roblox Slop Ripoff’

Peak publishers, Aggro Crab Games, have stated that they would prefer piracy over players playing the new ‘Roblox slop ripoff’ of their game.

Peak is a physics-based co-op climbing title that took over Steam within its first week, crossing 100,000 concurrent players. The popularity did not die off, with the game smashing past 5 million copies within a month. When your game reaches such heights, copycats are bound to follow, and a new copy of Peak has arrived on Roblox.

Peak Developers Call Out Roblox Copy’s Excessive Microtransactions

Spotted by PC Gamer, Aggro Crab’s latest tweet on X (formerly Twitter) calls out the Roblox ripoff of Peak. Their tweet states that they would rather have players “pirate” their game than “play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff”.

For those wondering, the ripoff in question is called Cliff, and it is the blatant copy of Peak. The promotional image is very similar, and many players will spot similarly shaped characters and an almost identical mountain in the background of the key art. Moreover, the description of Cliff is very similar to Peak’s description on Steam, with some tweaks here and there. However, Cliff’s developers have stated that their game is inspired by Peak and a game called Mountain Climbing.

PC Gamer’s report reveals that several other aspects of Peak have also been replicated by the Roblox clone, including the hub area being viewed in third person and the climbing and exploration being presented in first-person, the same luggage at the spawn point, and even the square stone columns. On top of that, Cliff includes micro-transactions for items like a climbing pickaxe, a parrot friend or a golden apple.

In other news, Peak added cannibalism in its latest update. What are your thoughts on Peak developers calling Cliff a microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
