Epic Games CEO Debunks Report That Fortnite’s New Disney Mode is Delayed by Slow Decision-Making

Epic Games CEO and Founder Tim Sweeney has shot back at a report claiming that the upcoming Disney mode in Fortnite has been hindered by slow decision-making.

The original report, which came from the Wall Street Journal, cites anonymous sources that claim the mode isn’t expected until fall 2026 due to “the slow pace of the decision-making at Disney, with signoffs needed from so many different divisions.”

According to Sweeney, who debunked the claims on X, “the anonymous quote is BS”.

He continued, “The speed of Disney and Epic collaborations like Darth Vader has been awesome and is around 10x the ordinary speed of media company dealings in this business. We even provided a statement to the writer of this article saying so, but they chose not to print it.”

Epic Games and Disney’s collaboration was announced in early 2024, with concept art showing that the project will be a Disneyland-esque mode within Fortnite. Exactly what that looks like in-game is unclear, but the concept art depicts different areas based on some of Disney’s biggest universes.

The mode is a part of Disney’s $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games, which will include this ‘expansive universe’ within Fortnite.

Interestingly, Sweeney did not deny the claims that the mode is not expected until Fall 2026, instead only firing back at the quote around the delayed decision-making.

What do you think of Sweeney denying the claims? Are you looking forward to seeing what Epic Games and Disney have planned in Fortnite? Let us know via the Insider Gaming forum.
