In a new official trailer, Bandai Namco revealed that the battle royale game Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs will finally launch on PC and consoles on May 9th.
It’s a major spin on the IP that supports 64 players at once. The game will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.
Pre-orders are available now, including a Deluxe Edition that adds the Lunar Animals Pac and Namco Pals Pac. Arcade fans will definitely appreciate the fan service in the latter.
Further, players who pre-order the Deluxe Edition will get access to the game a full week before launch, on May 2nd.
This title might have gone overlooked by some, because Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle was a Google Stadia exclusive. Stadia shut down in 2023, disappointing many gamers. In fact, head of Stadia Phil Harrison later resigned after the shutdown. Ultimately, Pac-Man’s multiplayer hit seemed lost.
Then, late last year, the developers released an announcement trailer that scheduled Chomp Champs for “early 2024.” This release window arrived without any concrete updates. So, retro enthusiasts are surely pleased that the game finally has a release date.
PlayStation released more details about the game in an official blog today. The blog adds that the game will support cross-play when it comes to PlayStation 4 and 5. That should definitely help fill lobbies that need dozens of players.
Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs is a welcome holdover from the game on Stadia. Hopefully, similar titles from the lost service can return in some form too.
