Ori Director Says Ori 3 Rumors Are ‘Nonsense’

Ori director Thomas Mahler says reports of a third Ori game are false and reveals that Moon Studios has discussed acquiring the series IP.

Amid rumors of XBOX reviving a property for a special announcement at the upcoming Gamescom event, the Moon Studios CEO has come out to give some clarity as to what he knows regarding the rumors.

The rumor stems from a post on the Reset Era forums suggesting that one of Saber Interactive’s teams was developing a new game in the series; it was then stated that the game could potentially be revealed as late as an Xbox Developer Direct in the fall.

Moon Studios Denies Ori 3 Rumors, Wants Ori IP Back

Ori And The Blind Forest Lake

In the first of two tweets addressing the rumors, Thomas Mahler said he heard nothing regarding Microsoft Reviving the franchise. He also stated that Moon Studios has held internal discussions about potentially purchasing the Ori IP.

Once again there’s a bunch of people asking me about Ori 3 since there’s rumors floating about…

As before, I haven’t heard anything about any of this.

I think after having put billions into 343 to handle Halo and not being able to recapture the old magic, I’d guess that by now MS has learned their lesson that the right talent needs to work on those IP’s, otherwise you’ll undoubtedly get more slop.

Internally, we’ve been discussing our interest in purchasing the IP back. I doubt any other studio could really do much with it, so it makes sense for this one to come home to Moon!

In the second tweet, he more clearly denies the rumors, calling them nonsense. Still, he says that the game’s composer, Gareth Coker, even believes it’s time for a new one.

Ori 2: Ori and the Will of the Wisps was released in 2020 to strong critical acclaim. How would you feel if a third game were released in the franchise? Sound off about this story and all others in our official Discord server.
