A new report has revealed that one of EA’s cancelled projects was an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe.
That’s according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who’s latest report says that around 300-400 roles across EA have been terminated due to the recent restructuring. 100 of those are laid off are from Respawn Entertainment.
According the the report, the extraction shooter project was set in the Titanfall universe under the codename “R7”, but wasn’t close to being completed.
As for if an extraction-shooter in the Titanfall universe would have been successful or not will never be known, but presumably the move was to try and follow a similar path to Apex Legends and its foot into Battle Royale, which is also set in the Titanfall universe.
Following the layoffs, Justin Higgs, a spokesman for the Redwood City said, “As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organization that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth.”
Schreier’s report comes following a slew of rumors these past couple of weeks, which said that a Titanfall 3 was in development and scheduled to release in 2026. Video game insider Jeff Grubb refuted the claims and further claimed today that Titanfall 3 is not in development.
