Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition Launches in July 2024

Nintendo revealed a new trailer today, officially announcing that Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition will launch on July 18, 2024. It will be available on the Nintendo eShop.

The trailer also showcased gameplay and a unique Deluxe Set. This special release includes a gold replica cartridge, art cards, pins, and a physical copy of the game.

Naturally, the replica cartridge is not playable, but at least a physical copy is still on the way. Fans can pre-order the digital version of the game now. However, there is no pre-order date for the Deluxe Set just yet.

Surprisingly, ESRB beat Nintendo to the punch with teasing this game, giving it an E rating last week. Today’s trailer confirms the game will feature “over 150 challenges from across 13 different NES games.”

It will also include “an automatic rewind feature” and support up to 8 players in a local party mode. The trailer further shows off the roster of games and their UI.

Fortunately, World Championship Mode will continue the spirit of competition with global online leaderboards. There was also a surprise cameo from Jeff Hansen, who won during the Nintendo World Championships in 1990.

While many surely enjoy the nostalgia, Nintendo fans are looking to the future this week. Nintendo just announced it will finally reveal the Switch successor sometime during this fiscal year. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa further explained the new Switch console isn’t a brand-new platform.
