As first reported by The Verge, a new claim has surfaced suggesting that the Nintendo Switch 2 could be headed for release in 2025.

According to a new report from Nikkei, it could launch “as early as March 2025”. Nikkei explains that they contacted Nintendo, but the company’s spokesperson had “no particular comment”.

Many expected the new Nintendo Switch 2 console to release sometime this year. However, Nikkei’s statement does reinforce rumors from earlier this month.

Just weeks ago, Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe also claimed that the new Nintendo console would actually launch in Q1 2025.

At this time, Nintendo has not confirmed any official release window for the anticipated console.

News about the delayed release for Nintendo Switch 2 caused a stir with Nintendo’s shares last week. A Bloomberg report said that Nintendo shares dropped “by as much as 8.8%”.

The resulting numbers were not technically low, but the delay disappointed investors and fans alike after building hype.

Fans also expected a big Nintendo Direct this month, but that event turned out to be a Partner Showcase instead. This could further imply that Nintendo is preparing to move on.

Meanwhile, fans speculated that Nintendo would reveal its next console sometime around March, this year.

But last week, Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe served up another report claiming that Nintendo would reveal the system in June. They added that “everything in flux always, but I’m feeling good”.

Since Nikkei now supports a similar Switch 2 release window, the June reveal might also be very likely.

It would also give Nintendo enough time to stock up and market the new console. However, Nintendo has not confirmed any official reveal date.
