One of the core concerns when a new console is released is that the older generation will fade out of existence relatively quickly. That’s certainly the case with the Nintendo Switch 2, which is set to be released on June 5. Fans unable to upgrade are wondering if they’ll be pushed to the side by Nintendo, but the gaming titan recently revealed that’s not the case.
In a new financial update, Nintendo confirmed that it will continue to launch new games for the Nintendo Switch, which it says accommodates ‘over 100 million people worldwide’.
But For How Long?
Nintendo reiterated the slate of new games coming to Nintendo Switch between 2025 and 2026 – and beyond. The list includes the likes of Pokémon Z-A Legends, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Rhythm Heaven: Groove, Tomodachi Life, and Pokémon Champions.
After that, the team used the fiscal update to confirm the following:
Going forward, we will continue to bring out new titles for the over 100 million people worldwide who are playing Nintendo Switch.

That’s good news, as the pre-order situation is still a little sketchy and many fans are being left out in the cold. Despite Nintendo’s promise that it would be able to handle the pipeline required to produce so many consoles, the number of pre-orders received for the Nintendo Switch 2 far exceeded expectations.
It’s quite easy to see Nintendo supporting the Switch 2 for quite some time, given the company’s track record. For example, new games were being released on the Wii U in 2023, despite the console ceasing production in 2017 to make room for the Nintendo Switch.
We could still be seeing Nintendo Switch games arriving for a few years at least.
