In a new report, it was revealed that Nintendo recently became the target (again) of multiple bomb threats, specifically leveled against the firm’s headquarters in Kyoto, Japan. Police have arrested a 27-year-old man from Hekinan City, miles away from the gaming titan’s head office.
Per the reports, the man faces allegations of mailing threatening documents to Nintendo, including letters claiming that he would bomb them and that a plan was in progress and couldn’t be stopped.
Nintendo Faces Bomb Threats in Kyoto
In a report first published by KTV, a Japanese outlet, it was confirmed that police had arrested an unemployed individual from Hekinan City, Aichi Prefecture, under suspicion of mailing threatening letters to Nintendo’s Kyoto headquarters.
Police explained that the first threatening document arrived at Nintendo’s HQ on March 16th, prompting a response from law enforcement, who carried out a wider search of the surrounding area.
Automaton picked up the story and expanded, reflecting on past threats against Nintendo that emerged in a similar vein. In 2023 and 2024, the firm was forced to cancel events because of bomb threats made against employees, which again prompted investigations by police.
It has been claimed that the suspect has admitted to the charges, which include a charge of suspected obstruction of business.
Bizarrely, this isn’t the first time that a 27-year-old Japanese male has made bomb threats against Nintendo. In 2024, a man was arrested for making threats related to a Splatoon tournament set to be hosted by Nintendo.
The events were unrelated (as far as we know), but it’s certainly a weird trend and one that Japanese authorities take extremely seriously.
