Comic-Con 2026 brings new details on the next Kratos-led God of War game, confirming it directly connects to Laufey’s story.
IGN reported that the announcement was made during a San Diego Comic Con panel, where Cory Barlog, the creative head of Santa Monica Studio, confirmed that the next Kratos-led God of War will be released after the upcoming God of War Laufey and that their stories are intrinsically tied.
The Laufey-focused God of War game is scheduled for release in early 2027. During the most recent Sony State of Play presentation, a gameplay trailer was shown featuring a cameo from Kratos.

The God of War TV Series Was Forced to Look for a New Kratos
The franchise is branching out beyond video games as a television series is in the works at Amazon Prime Video. Unfortunately, the series recently had to recast the role of Kratos as Ryan Hurst suffered an injury while filming.
He suffered a torn bicep and wouldn’t have been able to return to filming until early 2027, so the difficult decision was made to recast him. As of now, it is not known who will step into the role instead. From what is known, the series will follow the story of the 2018 God of War release. Learn more about the casting here.
