Amazon Games executive Jeffrey Gattis believes expensive next-gen consoles could lead more players to embrace cloud gaming platforms like Amazon Luna.
Amazon recently decided to bundle its Luna cloud gaming platform with Prime Video. There are certain stipulations for using the service, namely needing to play on a Fire TV. The GM of Gaming at the e-commerce juggernaut believes that recent price surges in other corners of the gaming space may lead to a boom in players adopting platforms like Luna.

Amazon Games GM Explains Why Cloud Gaming Could Grow Fast

In an interview with Christopher Dring of The Game Business, Gattis said it is not Luna’s goal to replace consoles. However, platforms like the Steam Machine launching at over $1,000 and the constant price increases for PlayStation and Xbox hardware are creating a pathway for cloud gaming to shine more than ever before.
“Our business is more about reaching more players and expanding the market, not trying to get people to give up their consoles or gaming PCs,” he said. “The world doesn’t need another one of those. They don’t need a fourth entry selling the same games and competing for the same pie of players. It really isn’t growing… I do think you get to a point at which more people will be in the consideration set for a cloud gaming solution, just because of the sheer cost of buying dedicated hardware.”
