Ubisoft Confirms a New First-Person Ghost Recon Game is in Development

Ubisoft has confirmed in a shareholder meeting that it is working on a new first-person Ghost Recon game.

The news comes from a new report by Stephen Totilo’s Game File (subscription is highly encouraged), where Yves Guillemot confirmed in a shareholder meeting that a new Ghost Recon game is in development.

During the meeting, Yves Guillemot discussed the success of Rainbow Six Siege as an example of the company’s expertise in live service games.

Yves said, “our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer—and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.”

Soon after, Ubisoft’s CFO Frederick Duguet answered a question about how Ubisoft will use its investment from Tencent, to which he said that it will be “used for future development of other major brand names. So we’ve got… Ghost Recon is just one example, for our first-person-shooter-type games.” He added, “And we also want to boost our live games,” such as The Crew and For Honor.

More Ghost Recon Details

For those out of the loop of Ghost Recon, Insider Gaming has already reported that the next Ghost Recon, codenamed Ovr is the next mainline title in the franchise.

Project Ovr is set during a fictional Naiman War, played in 1st person, and takes heavy inspiration from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. Footage sent to Insider Gaming under the condition it does not go public showed something somewhat akin to Ready or Not.

In a report released in June, we also announced that Ghost Recon will enter its internal alpha later this year. The timelines suggest that the game could launch in late 2026.
