GameStop’s Switch 2 Stapler Sells for $250,000 at Auction

GameStop has just announced that their controversial Switch 2 stapler has been sold for $250,000 in an auction.

For those unaware, GameStop recently faced a ‘Staplegate’ controversy, where Nintendo Switch 2 consoles were damaged due to employees stapling receipts on the console’s box. Last we heard, the stapler was grabbing a lot of attention, crossing $100,000 in bids. According to the latest announcement, it has more than doubled the previous number.

All Proceeds from GameStop’s Staplegate Auction Will Go to a Children’s Charity

Yes, you read that right: as reported by Business Insider, the controversial stapler, along with the now-fixed console, its box and the “carefully extracted staple”, has been sold by GameStop on eBay for $250,000. The auction concluded yesterday, with a total of 282 bids. The CEO of GameStop had stated that if the auction reached six figures, he would include his underwear in the collection, and his underwear has also been teased.

It all started at a GameStop store in Staten Island, where some players received untouched Nintendo Switch 2 consoles, and others got punctured ones. GameStop, since then, has fixed all of the impacted consoles and then decided to “turn the snafu into something for a good cause.” A GameStop spokesperson also stated that auctioning the stapler was a “no-brainer”, and they were right. The stapler and all other contents in the auction have been sold for a whopping $250,000, and all proceeds are going to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

In other news, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have the whole game on a Switch 2 cartridge. Also, check out the comparison images for Donkey Kong Bananza.
