Donkey Kong Bananza Comparison Images Revealed for Switch 1 and Switch 2

Nintendo has just revealed some comparison images to showcase how Donkey Kong Bananza was shaping up for the Switch 1 and how they improved it for the Switch 2.

As we approach the release date of Donkey Kong Bananza, new details about the game are being revealed. We already knew that the game was originally planned for the Switch 1, but the developers needed the power of Switch 2 to deliver the title properly. New images have now revealed how Donkey Kong Bananza would have looked on the Switch 1.

Donkey Kong Bananza Devs Reveal Why They Choose Switch 2 Over Switch 1

Spotted by IGN, during the latest ‘Ask the Developer‘ segment, Donkey King Banaza devs reveal why Switch 2 was the obvious choice for the game. The producer, Kenta Motokura, first explained that development for the Nintendo Switch began, but they encountered some technical challenges, which led to the project being moved to the Switch 2 in 2021.

Kazuya Takahashi, one of the directors for Donkey Kong Bananza, explained that there were several obvious improvements with the Switch 2. Most notably, they were able to place “far more objects in the environment than before”, which not only helped in enhancing “the game’s visual richness”, but also provided more things for the players to destroy. If you check out the comparison images below, you will see that Donkey Kong Bananza’s environment is a lot more filled and lively on the Switch 2, compared to the Switch 1.

Tanaka mentioned that the new voxel technology used in Donkey Kong Bananza requires “a lot of system memory,” which the original Switch did not have enough of to support all the developers’ ambitions. Transitioning to the Switch 2 not only provided the necessary memory but also offered greater processing power. This upgrade allowed developers the freedom to incorporate “gameplay ideas” they had previously abandoned because they felt those ideas were “too demanding.”

In other news, Nintendo has confirmed the developers of Donkey Kong Bananza. What are your thoughts on the Switch 1 and Switch 2 comparison images for Donkey Kong Bananza? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming forums discussion.
