It has been claimed that a new DualSense controller is inbound for the PlayStation 5, and that this unit will feature an ‘innovation’ never before seen in the PlayStation space. Per the most recent rumors, the ‘DualSense V3’ will have a removable battery, and when it drops in November (per claims), it’ll replace the current roster of PS5 controller models.
For some, this is a step back, but for others, this represents a progressive leap that will enable some to keep their controllers fresher for longer by swapping out batteries. For the longest time, Xbox controllers have been mocked by PlayStation users for requiring batteries, but things might be set to change.
When is the New DualSense Controller Coming Out?
It has been claimed by a reputable Polish outlet, PPE, that the DualSense V3 is set to launch this November, alongside the refined PS5 Pro that we recently covered. It was the same outlet (PPE) that revealed information about The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered and Microsoft Flight Simulator coming to PlayStation 5.
Could the DualSense controller be getting a removable battery for the first time in brand history? For more than two decades, PlayStation controllers have relied on wired connections and internal, untouchable batteries, while Xbox has leaned towards removable batteries, with most users packing standard AA batteries into their controllers to play.
That has long been a point of contention for gamers, with PlayStation fans mocking the lack of innovation or progression from Microsoft, but PlayStation could be set to mimic that operating model somewhat.
Going forward, if the rumors turn out to be true, we could see DualSense battery packs surface, allowing you to swap out your battery and keep playing when one dies, rather than needing to run a cable across the room to charge your controller while you play.
