Mimic Reveals Brutal New Horror Trailer During 28 Games Later Showcase

Mimic is what Among Us could look like if it had you hunted by an Android threat in a world that’s reminiscent of the Alien franchise. In Mimic, you and nine other players must embark on the ultimate survival mission, completing tasks and trying to stay alive while being hunted by the Mimic itself, a shape-shifting, player-controlled terror.

There are some innovative caveats to this horror title, and the entire thing is driven by the same social-deduction gameplay loop that made Among Us such a hit. It’s a paranoid, terrifying game that gives you no way to defend yourself; you either find out who is hunting you, or you succumb to a brutal death.

And during Insider Gaming’s 28 Games Later Showcase, Mimic received a new trailer.

What is Mimic?

Mimic is a sci-fi horror title with a multiplayer core driven by social deduction, which means you’ll need to work together to determine the monster among you, while that same monster fights to remain anonymous.

You’ll board a ship with a crew of nine others, bearing tasks to repair that ship and make an escape. All the while, you’re being hunted by the Mimic, a shape-shifting and evolving biological terror. This is a player-controlled entity that can kill at will.

At the same time, another player is a ‘corporate shadow’, a character that’s nursing a secret agenda to sabotage the repair mission and render the Mimic victorious. But even they aren’t safe from the brutality of the Mimic.

Key Features of Mimic

  • Endless Replayability: You can replay Mimic over and over again, thanks to the game’s core loop. The objectives are randomized, the agendas are spontaneous, and the unpredictable nature of literally every player makes for some incredibly emergent gameplay opportunities.
  • Desperate Survival: You have no offensive capabilities whatsoever as a survivor, so if you come face-to-face with the Mimic, you’ll need to flee and hope you’re not caught, and that you can raise the alarm before you’re caught and end up bleeding out in a corridor somewhere, unable to warn anyone…
  • Multiple Perspectives: In Among Us, you can be the crewmate, or you can be the imposter, but in Mimic, you’ll unlock a third, fresh perspective. It’s one that is more closely aligned with the Mimic, but even though that common ground is there, the corporate agent is still a potential victim.

The Studio Behind Mimic

Mimic has been developed by Ryan Laley Games, a solo dev-backed studio with extensive expertise in Unreal Engine development. He’s self-publishing Mimic after producing a free-to-play FPS title called Fireteam and while working on a puzzle strategy game called The ChicKing.
